Mentoring
CYWU is the only specialist trade union with a dedicated section just for learning menotrs with a representative for mentors on our National Committee. Whether you are a volunteer, full time or part time, CYWU is the union for you. We meet government and develop policies in the national trade union movement to get learning mentoring established as a permanent and recognised profession. The skills demanded in this work are of the highest order, yet without a framework for nationally recognised qualification and terms and conditions, mentors are subject to low, locally determined terms and conditions and lack of professional parity. We say learning mentoring is as important to the education system as teaching and youth work and that learning mentors should be treated accordingly. Employers should respect and reward the work we do. Mentors give close and dedicated attention and support to the young people they work with. CYWU does exactly this for its members. Dedicated and professional support is given through casework, advice on contractual and legal issues, matters relating to training and general advice and guidance.
