Looking back to Albermarle
Posted on Tuesday, November 16, 2010
Fifty years ago the Albemarle reported and its main recommendations were accepted and the modern Youth Service was consolidated and created. All of the progress that flowed from that achievement is now threatened. The Albemarle Committee was set up because the Union and the voluntary sector complained about the cuts and neglect of the service in the early and mid 1950s. The situation today is more severe and the service could be wiped out. But we should be hopeful that union campaigning and solidarity will see us through. Read the Report which accessed here and above all contribute to our modern day equivalent, the opportunity to contribute to the inquiry of the Education Select Committee by December 15th.
