Wales Consults on new youth work curriculum statement
Posted on Tuesday, October 30, 2001Following the successful consultation with the field on the Code of Ethics the Wales Youth Agency is now consulting widely on a developed curriculum statement. The initial statement dates back to 1992.
Members of CYWU are urged to submit their comments initially to National Office to inform a Union response.
From the point of view of those NEC members who have considered the draft it is a progressive statement confirming the voluntary relationship with young people, the commitment to equal opportunities and to educational practice with young people that seeks to create participation, empowerment, expressive, positive relationships and social and political development.
In reality some local authority youth services and voluntary organisations have a lot to do to catch up with the 1992 statement and to support their workers in innovative practice, to the key will be the extent to which senior managers and councillors grapple with the new agenda and put the positive initiatives of the Wales Assembly and Wales Youth Agency into effect.
