Community and Union Rally

The Community and Union rally provided a great starting point for members in the Community, Youth Workers and Not for Profit Sector to Unite’s national campaign to defend Pay, People and Pensions.
Eric Segal spoke movingly of the Refugee and Migrant Justice (RMJ) situation, we also had speakers from NUT, Trades Councils, PCS, our local youth workers and young people. Councillor Mutton, Leader of Coventry City Council spoke and, many other councillors were present as well as two of Coventry’s three MPs.
Two Unite EC members were present Maggie Ryan and Dave Mathieson. Dave addressed the rally and passed on the apologies of Tony Woodley and Tony Woodhouse.
Len McCluskey, Unite’s AGS, spoke at the rally reminding delegates that the public debt was not their fault, and that this new government should be taken to account over their proposed cuts. His rousing speech received a standing ovation by delegates present.
Youth worker Branches from Devon, Somerset, Gloucester, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, Tameside, Oldham, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Warwickshire, West Sussex, North Wales, Islington, Luton, and elsewhere were in attendance.
