Look behind the Label

March saw the latest steps in Unite’s campaign to demand that Marks & Spencer practices what it preaches by having the highest ethical standards in the treatment of customers and to also insist upon the highest ethical standards for workers employed by companies throughout the supply chain.
But it has not been an easy battle. Union activists in Moscow were arrested outside the M&S store on March 6th for demonstrating in solidarity with the campaign to get a fair deal for agency workers. In the last few days, similar demonstrations and protests have also been held in Hong Kong, Zagreb, Geneva and Gibraltar, while other activists were prevented from holding demonstrations in Mumbai, Jakarta and Bandung. These actions form part of a rolling programme of international action organised through the International Union of Food workers, the global union of food and agriculture workers to which Unite is affiliated.
